History

Sports dancing has been developing in Bulgaria since 1967 year. Classes were carried out in different forms in youth clubs, cultural and community centres. Sports dancing has been managed by Amateur Artistic centre of The Culture Committee through Competitive Dancing section.

In 1986 year the organization becomes a member of International Dance Sport Federation, then ICAD, now IDSF, and since 1988 Bulgarian dancers have been regularly taking part in the official World and European Championships. After the political and structural changes in Bulgaria and collapse of The Culture Committee several clubs initiated in 1990 the establishment of Bulgarian Association of Sports Dancing /BASD/. Later all the clubs in Bulgaria joined this organization.

Bulgarian Dance Sport Federation was founded in 1995 as a direct successor of BASD and in the same year the Federation became a member of Bulgarian Olympic Committee.
